This family friendly cornflake tart has just 7 ingredients!
(And you will probably already have them in the cupboard)
The kids will love to get involved in the baking process and will be proud to present this dessert to the family!
Serve alone, with custard or if you’re really in the mood to cook…with our home made ice cream.
This dessert is delicious any way you serve it and is definitely a crowd pleaser!
- 320g ready rolled shortcrust pastry (honestly, pre made is so much easier)
- Flour…for dusting
- 50g of butter. Room temperature.
- 125g golden syrup.
- 25g light brown sugar
- 100g cornflakes
- 125g of your favourite berry jam
Personally, when baking with younger kids, I find it way less stress if you pre measure out the ingredients and have them in individual bowls.
Older children, are much more likely to measure out correctly, not spill everywhere and not be tempted to just wing it!
Okay, so you’ve prepped your ingredients for the cornflake tart so it’s time to get started.
Preheat your oven to 180C
Flour your worktop and roll out the pastry.
Place your pastry into a circular tart tin. Press it into the sides and corners. Trim off any extra that’s hanging over the sides.
Line the pastry with baking paper and fill with baking beans or uncooked rice.
Bake for 15 minutes.
Remove the paper and beans then bake for another 5 or 10 minutes until it is just golden.
Heat the butter, syrup and sugar in a small pan with a pinch of salt.
Stir it frequently until smooth.
Take off the heat and fold in the cornflakes. Make sure everything is well coated!
Spread the jam onto the pastry base.
Pour on the cornflake mixture and press it down gently so that all of the jam is covered.
Bake the cornflake tart for another 5 minutes until the cornflakes are toasted.
Remove from the oven and leave it to cool slightly before serving.
