Entertaining Children at Home : Top 10 games!

entertaining kids at home

Thanks to lock down 2.0 we are all going to be spending a bit more time at home with the kids.

Here are some of my all time favourite games for entertaining children at home.

Twister
I don’t think I need to say anything about Twister.
We all know it. We all love it.
It always ends in a pile of tangled limbs and fits of laughter.

Dobble
I like dobble because it’s fun for adults too.
Kids are actually genuinely good at it so you don’t need to let them win or go easy on them. I recently played with a 4 year old and she kicked my bum.
They do ‘themed’ decks too (such as Harry Potter) which is great!

Cluedo
Cluedo is a good one for older children as it involves logic and a bit of strategy.

Drama games
Brilliant for entertaining children at home for several reasons…
No props needed.
Simple and fun for all the family.
Check out my favourites over here.

DIY your own board game
Creating your own board game is an awesome project that can definitely span several evenings.
– Come up with a concept
– Design the board

Snap
A simple classic. Match colours, suits or numbers.
Warning. It can get ridiculously competitive.

Mouse trap
Do you remember playing mouse trap when you were small? I LOVED it. And I also loved building the game almost as much as I did playing with the finished product.
Defo recommended to kids that like constructing things.

Kapla
Get your creative juices flowing and see what you can build!
Build a tower. Now, try a different method of building a tower…is it more stable?
Build a race track.
Construct a house or an entire village!
Use the bricks to play jenga.
Find a picture of the Eiffel Tower or another landmark, try to recreate it!

Snakes and Ladders
Snakes and ladders is an absolute classic.
Recommended from 3 years + and get the kids to practice their numbers!

Hide and Seek
I’m not going to lie, it’s a great game if you need a bit of a break.
The children will often hide in the same 3 spots over and over again so you can easily drag out and exaggerate the finding process…hmmmmmm could you be hiding under the table? What about in the flower pot? No, I know! You’re in the dishwasher!
Make your guesses really silly , they will find it hilarious and you get to appreciate a bit of quiet time 😉
